What are you expecting from this year’s Careers Fair?

This year we actually came more to do branding. We’re not really looking for many fresh grads, because we don’t have many vacant positions at the moment. If there are suitable people, we want to recruit them for our internships.

What are the top 3 qualities that your company looks for when hiring fresh grads?

Good English, good communication skills and someone who is willing to learn and is flexible.

Any advice for fresh grads hoping to build a career at Amcorp?

They have to flexible and sometimes they have to give and take. A lot of young people these days are into work-and-life balance. But some work doesn’t actually allow that luxury, so they do have to work – for now! – and then they can enjoy later.

Can you give us an approximate range of your starting salaries?

RM 2,500 – 3, 000.

 

Boustead

Company Representative:

What are you expecting from this year’s Careers Fair?

Basically to get students to know more about Boustead and the vacancies that we have.

What positions is your company currently interested in filling?

We have the management associate programme and some development programmes.

What are the top 3 qualities that your company looks for when hiring fresh grads?

We’re looking at how the candidates present themselves, good communication skills and good results.

Any advice for fresh grads hoping to build a career in Boustead?

They need to have the right skills. They need to present themselves well, project confidence and convince the interviewers.

Can you give us an approximate range of your starting salaries?

RM 2,000+.

 

Brunsfield

Company Representative:

Gan Wei Xiong (HR Executive).

What are you expecting from this year’s Careers Fair?

Our main objective is to create brand awareness, so that more students are aware of what we do – and also our presence in the industry. That is our main objective – our second objective is definitely to find fresh graduates to join our very young and dynamic team

What positions is your company currently interested in filling?

In terms of current vacancies, it’s a very wide scope. Mostly are engineering positions, but because we are also a service provider we have vacancies for accountancy, finance, human resource, administration, property management and various more that are related to our industry

What are the top 3 qualities that your company looks for when hiring fresh grads?

So the first most important quality is the person’s character: in terms of the person’s politeness and openness to learning. Candidates that are pleasant, easy to work with and willing to learn will be able to grow very fast.

Secondly, we look for the candidates’ determination: how determined and how passionate they are in terms of what they are studying and what they hope to achieve in the future.

The third part is the consistency is what they do – especially in their studies. As long as they are consistent in their studies and they have been participating in external activities – that would show that they are really an all-rounded student.

Any advice for fresh grads hoping to build a career in Brunsfield?

As long as they are prepared, are properly groomed (in terms of their appearance and attire), are confident when attending interviews and have the right attitude and character, it will be significantly easier for them to find the right opportunities.

Can you give us an approximate range of the starting salaries at Brunsfield?

The starting salary is subject to the specific sector, major, qualifications and past achievements – but rest assured that our starting salaries are more competitive than the market rate.

 

Eco World

Company Representative:

Kenny Chin, Manager for Group Talent & Management.

What are you expecting from this year’s Careers Fair?

We hope to engage the students more through the Careers Fair, and we would also like to promote our company. We find that there are a lot of Civil Engineering students here, which we take in because we actually have a project nearby, which is Eco Majestic. It will be a good exposure for Civil Engineering students. We expect students to get to know us better, and get more exposure to this university.

We’ve been here every year already, and we work closely with ICE – your Civil Engineering Society – and we also like to work closely with your ICAEW society. We try to branch out to reach business students as well. Hopefully we can get everybody to know what we do – because not all students know what Eco World does. They might have seen our advertising videos, but they don’t know exactly what we do.

What positions is your company currently interested in filling?

We’re mainly looking for Civil Engineering students, but we also take in Finance students (but not in a busload), sales and marketing, quantity surveyors, architects and sales and administration. This is mainly what we’re looking for.

What are the top 3 qualities that your company looks for when hiring fresh grads?

Most importantly, we try to look for someone who has the same alignment with our company values: leadership, teamwork and customer service excellence.

Any advice for fresh grads hoping to build a career in Eco World?

We normally look for the right attitude to learn. In Eco World, we give abundant opportunities for employees to grow – through training and company events. They should be an all-rounder; they should not only do what they’re supposed to do.

Can you give us an approximate range of the starting salaries at Eco World?

We pay at the market rate; we pay according to experience and background. For fresh graduates, it’s about RM 2,800 +.

 

IJM

Company Representative:

Ben Lim (Manager, HR)

What are you expecting from this year’s Careers Fair?

The main purpose we come here is for branding and awareness – we want students to know what IJM is all about. And the second thing is to engage talent. So branding and recruitment, to put it simply.

What positions is your company currently interested in filling?

We are always looking for talents in civil and mechanical engineering when it comes to Nottingham.

What are the top 3 qualities that your company looks for when hiring fresh grads?

Communication skills, passion in their job and interpersonal skills.

Any advice for fresh grads hoping to build a career at IJM?

I think the most important thing that we want fresh graduates to know is where their passion is – what they actually want to do. That is number one; that is key. You might be studying, for example, Computer Science. But that doesn’t mean that you’re very keen, maybe your passion lies in human interaction. So you’re more suited for sales, marketing and human resource. So firstly, know what your passion is.

Secondly, you need to improve your communication skills. I think this is a must regardless of what positions you apply for. As a start, for a graduate, it is the ability to express yourself and your ideas. During interviews, we expect you to be able to relate, respond, and express opinions well. That is the key.

Can you give us an approximate range of the starting salaries at IJM?

It will be at about RM 3,000.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

At IJM, we are very open to taking in graduates – provided that they have the skills, personalities and the attributes that we want. They must be willing to learn – that is important.

 

SP Setia

What are you expecting from this year’s Careers Fair?

Of course, we are expecting a better quality of students – for the internships that we have, and also for any opening vacancies for fresh graduates.

What positions is your company currently interested in filling?

We’re mainly looking for interns in our various departments, especially Civil Engineering and Marketing, Communications and Finance

What are the top 3 qualities that your company looks for when hiring fresh grads?

First of all, a good attitude. Good interpersonal and communication skills, a good command of English. Lastly, the industry-specific knowledge.

Any advice for fresh grads hoping to build a career in SP Setia?

I would advise them to not be very choosy, to be ready to voice out their opinion (be confident and don’t be afraid to speak up), and be ready to work hard.

Can you give us an approximate range of the starting salaries at SP Setia?

RM 3,000+.

 

YTL

Company Representative:

Winnie Yep (Admin & HR Exec)

What are you expecting from this year’s Careers Fair?

Actually we are recruiting young talents – especially from the engineering division. We’re looking for mechanical and civil engineers this year.

What positions is your company currently interested in filling?

We are currently hiring a bunch of graduate engineers for our 24-month training programme.

What are the top 3 qualities your company looks for when hiring fresh grads?

Actually we look at qualifications – the results. If we can hire the top scorers, that would be an advantage. Secondly, we look at the personality and the attitude.

It depends on how responsive they are – we do have an interview session with our Head of M&E department, Mr Kwan. He will try to communicate with the students to see if they ask many questions, if they are very introverted or extroverted. He will assess they are suitable for the construction division, where we mainly deal with many subcontractors and a strong personality and leadership is important.

Any advice for fresh grads hoping to build a career in YTL?

We have many sectors, but for construction we look for a good personality. A person’s character is one of the main criteria that we look at: the first image; how you respond to the questions; how you interact with people; the communication skills is very important; as well as the mind-set of ‘knowing what they what’. Students who know what they want and can foresee their future – that’s a great advantage for them.

Can you give us an approximate range of the starting salaries at YTL?

I can only say that we are in line with the market price.
