I don’t know about you folks but personally I prefer the horror/thriller/slasher genre when it comes to movies, games and even TV shows. The bloodier the better, and I certainly have my favourites when it comes to the genre. Gory eye candy that has satisfied me over the years would range from The Exorcism of Emily Rose ’73, to The Amityville Horror ’79, and anything in-between. Games of the likes of Silent Hill, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent are only the tip of the iceberg.
However, when it came to TV Shows, I was always left wanting more. Whether it was True Blood or Supernatural – they just didn’t have the ‘X-Factor’. So I watched endlessly… I covered everything from Japanese to Spanish to German, you name it. Some didn’t have a gripping story line, while others clearly showed their lack of budget during production and some – if I may – could have acted with a bit more conviction.
I had realized zombies were the most entertaining and my preferred creations of doom when I watched and re-watched Resident Evil 1 (and the ones that followed) at least a dozen times, and purchased all of the console games. Then at long last on 31st October 2010, the series I had been craving for all my life without even knowing it became a reality!
“The Walking Dead” premiered leaving me in no doubt that for as long as the show would go on, at the end of the day I could always sit back, relax and scare myself to sleep with a reliable show. And for a TV show to give me info on zombies which is accurately detailed, nightmare-inspiring and very legitimate, week in week out – it was a match made in heaven.
I was obviously disappointed with a six-episode first season, but a longer, better, much scarier, thirteen-episode second season followed, and finally I have waited an agonizingly long wait (which lasted from March 18th to October 14th) to rest my eyes on flesh eating zombies and a handful of people who carry the fate of humanity on their shoulders in the next season.
Season 3, a sixteen-episode season premiered on October 14th 2012, 11 PM Malaysia time on Fox Movies Premium. Those of you who own an Astro dish would have probably watched it. The premier lived up to the hype I had created in my head: the storyline was as interesting as ever, the zombies were ‘dead-er’ and the episode ended with a cliff hanger I have long since associated ONLY with The Walking Dead because they truly define the series title with their endings.
If this amazing show sounds interesting to you, then it’s time to make space on your hard-drive and hit your favourite downloading site, because this season will be ending in just a few weeks’ time! Another zombie-less break will follow though, with the series resuming in mid-January, so you have plenty of time to catch up with all of the episodes before then.
My only hope is that the series continues to awe the audience and stays as brilliant as it has been for the past seasons. As long as I get to see some legit zombies tearing human flesh apart, as a customer and fan, I will always be satisfied.
